The edge of the forest - a habitat full of surprises

Working at the edge of the forest: discovering diversity, tackling and enhancing

Did you know that the forest edge between the forest and cultivated land is much more than just a border? In this activity, you will learn why every forest edge is unique and the important role it plays in the stability of the forest.

The transition from forest to meadows and fields is home to a particularly large number of animal and plant species. A structurally rich forest edge offers protection, food and ideal habitats. Regular maintenance not only strengthens biodiversity, but also the connection between forest and cultivated land. In addition, forest edges and hedges are among the most important breeding grounds for many birds - and characterize the landscape.

Under the expert guidance of our district forester Kyra Pauli, we will work together to enhance the edges of a forest in the Diemtigtal Nature Park. We also take time to observe nature and learn about the bird species that benefit here.

The activity is part of the "Diemtigtal Birdlife" project and is directly related to the exhibition of the same name at the Diemtighuus in Diemtigen.

The number of participants is limited. We recommend early registration. The registration deadline is November 3, 2025.
