Walk from the East station towards the center. Along the English Garden past the Adolf Guyer-Zeller monument (builder of the Jungfrau Railway), and past the Hotel Beau Rivage. Cross the street and stroll through the Japanese Garden, then you will come to the churches and the old buildings of the monastery. Continue southward, walk around the Höhematte to the Schuh restaurant. Here, in good weather, you can watch the paragliders land.
A servitude is imposed on the famous Höhematte which prohibits blocking the view of the impressive Jungfrau mountain. East along the elevated path to the Meersman fountain and across the street through the flower-adorned Kursaal garden. Between the new and old buildings to the Aare River, over the bridge, along the left side of the Aare, and at the pedestrian bridge to the middle. From here, you have a beautiful view towards the old town and a perfect pyramid shape of the Niesen mountain in sight.
Continue to the old town of Unterseen. Part of the old town has been renewed and very modernly rebuilt. Unterseen has city rights and is the uppermost town on the Aare. Across the Town Hall Square and back through the lower alley to the bridge, through the Spielmatte and the Market Alley to Postplatz. Over Bahnhofstrasse you reach the West station. Optional: return by bus or train to East station.Â
