The section Interlaken - Merligen is part of the Berner Oberländer route, which will take us from Brünig to Amsoldingen. We are on the Swiss Way of St. James.

Today's stage will lead us over a distance of 12.9 km with a walking time of around 4.0 hours from Interlaken to Merligen. We can expect a medium-level day stage. We start the hike heading west by crossing the Aare to Unterseen and follow the signposted paths. We cross Unterseen and follow the Aare to the Weissenau ruin. The path today runs on both asphalt and natural trails. After about 5.0 km we reach Neuhaus and cross the Lombach river. After Sundlauenen, the ascent to the St. Beatus Caves follows, which we reach after about 8.0 km. Shortly after Balmholz, at 727 m altitude, we reach the highest point of the stage. This is followed by a descent of about 2.5 km and we arrive in Merligen.

Today we pass the following sights: Weissenau Ruin, St. Beatus Caves, Luk Staircase, Merligen Church
