Full steam ahead on the Niederhorn Railway

The glass-sided funicular railway conveys you in comfort from Beatenbucht to the sun terrace at Beatenberg in only ten minutes. After a short stopover, you continue your journey on the modern cable car up to the summit of the Niederhorn. The ascent is both magical and imposing, because the journey time of just under 20 minutes gives you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surrounding mountains and lakes. You get to see the majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from the best possible angle – the perfect backdrop for a souvenir photo of your mountain trip.

On a clear day, a 360° panorama awaits you on the Niederhorn at 1950 m above sea level. The imposing view down into the Justistal and the spectacular steep abyss with its razor-sharp cliff edges is enough to give you goose bumps. The panorama from the summit is equally impressive: let your gaze wander over the Aare valley to the world-famous mighty snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Oberland giants and even as far as the Jura.

Much to learn on the stunning ridge trail

The trilling new ridge trail promises 360-degree views as it leads past spectacularly rugged cliff edges. Stunningly panoramic viewpoints open up along the way: gaze down into the idyllic Justis valley and savour the breathtaking mountain range with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau on the horizon. Along the trail, notice boards provide information on the unique flora and fauna of the alpine environment.

Ridge walks and panorama trails

Lace up your hiking boots and put on your backpack. The Niederhorn offers a 120 km network of beautiful hiking and mountain trails. For example, there’s a popular hike along an impressive ridge to the Gemmenalphorn. Roam through the majestic natural scenery and enjoy the ever-changing alpine panorama with its perennially snow-capped peaks and the shimmering waters of Lake Thun. Depending on the weather, the world-famous Three Peaks (Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau) can seem as if they’re within touching distance.

Guided wildlife observation tour on the Niederhorn

Are you an early riser? It’s worth setting off early for a hike – if you’re lucky, you might encounter meet marmots, chamois or even ibex along the way. The mountain belongs to the wild animals in the early hours of the morning. You can book a wildlife watching tour from July to September. Every Thursday morning, wildlife experts with local knowledge take you to see herds of Alpine ibex and offer interesting facts about fauna and flora.

Action and fun on a scooter bike

In the summer months, the Niederhorn offers you the opportunity to enjoy action and fun on a scooter bike ride. The mascots Rocky and Happy will lead you down two varied courses. Enjoy the speedy descent from the midway station at Vorsass to Beatenberg.

Alpine orienteering is an experience for the whole family. Spot the signs and test your orientation skills between the Niederhorn and Vorsass. With four different paths in the company of Rocky and the gang, orientation is great fun for all the family.

Round off your excursion by visiting a mountain inn on the Niederhorn or at Vorsass midway station. Delicious food, atmospheric surroundings and enthusiastic hosts await at both locations. From July to September you can even ascend the Niederhorn in the evening and indulge in a four-course meal while admiring the spectacular sunset.
