In the footsteps of the muleteers

At the bus stop in Gadmen, go down the Mühleschlucht street to the Gadmerwasser and over the bridge to the Farlouiwald junction. Turn left and follow the forest road until shortly after the Obermad campsite at Eynollen, where we change sides of the stream again. North of the Gadmerwasser and south of the Susten Pass road, continue to the Saageli / Hindertritt junction. Turn right along the brook (now called Steiwasser) to Underwasser, where a bridge takes you back to the south side of the brook. Past the alpine huts Wyssemad, change sides again at the P.1615 junction and walk on the renovated mule track to Steingletscher, where you encounter the Susten Pass road again for the first time since the beginning of the hike. Follow the marked hiking trail via Stööölweng uphill, crossing the pass road twice until the bus stop at the west portal (P.2223) of the summit tunnel on the Susten Pass. Those who wish can make a short detour from Stööölweng to the shore of the Steinsee or continue up to the pass height at 2259 m.
