High-altitude hike on the sunny slope above Grindelwald with occasional modest ascents and descents. Particularly impressive is the view of the rugged walls and peaks of Schreckhorn and Wetterhorn. The route is marked with purple signposts and purple poles.

Even before the start of the route, there is the dilemma: In which direction should you hike? Those who start in Bort and head west towards Bussalp enjoy panoramic views downstream and of the Männlichen ski area on the opposite side of the Lütschine valley. Those who choose the opposite direction will enjoy the sight of the sharply jagged peaks of Schreckhorn and Wetterhorn. In the 19th century, such a mountain backdrop was described as "sublime," a term that not only meant that such mountains stood out distinctly from their surroundings. It also carried a sense of respect, even fear – a strange blend of attraction and repulsion that people of the time felt toward the mountains.
From the sledding paradise Bussalp, you descend on the winter trail, which is groomed parallel to the road, to Holzmattenläger. There, the hiking route diverges from the road and follows the course of the "High Trail 1600". Initially entirely over open pastureland, then partly through forested areas, the path follows the slope with gentle ups and downs to Späten Boden. With a magnificent view of the glacier world between Eiger and Schreckhorn, the route continues over snowy pastureland down to Rasthysi. The name promises a clear invitation: The cozy hut offers an opportunity for a break with food and drink. After a short ascent, the notorious avalanche track in the Bären area is crossed. In case of avalanche danger, the hiking route in the open terrain is closed for a length of about 100 m and instead leads through a gallery specially built for pedestrians.
The path then continues mostly through the forest until Nodhalten. Smaller and larger gaps in the trees always grant beautiful views of the mountain parade on the opposite valley side. At Räckholtertor, you turn left and thus reach the endpoint Bort almost on level ground in a wide curve via Niederbaach.
