Like an eagle's nest, the Ostegghütte stands high above the Grindelwald valley.
From the Alpiglen train station (Grindelwald – Kleine Scheidegg line), follow the Eiger Trail mountain path to the Bonera junction. Then head towards Bonera to the Rinderalp at point 1773. Continue following the path, cross a distinctive ravine, and after this, ascend slightly to the east beneath the rock band until you can climb up a grassy ridge on the right. At the first opportunity, turn left again onto a prominent ridge. From there, proceed generally eastward, gradually ascending beneath the notable grassy saddle and over steeper grassy slopes up to the cairn in the saddle. Then proceed, less steeply, over a scree slope to the rocks of the first ascent where the wire ropes begin. Using the wire ropes and artificial steps, ascend over the ascent and then, on somewhat flatter terrain, to the prominent gully that descends from above. Then comes the strenuous climb up the gully. Once it becomes easier, you can soon traverse right to the Ostegghütte.
