Light-filled winter moments on the «Büchsewäg» on the Grimmialp. 

With over 300 artistically punched cans, the path from the chapel parking lot to Egg is illuminated. From November 29, 2026, to March 14, 2027, each evening from dusk invites you to an evening walk on the Grimmialp. Each individual can was lovingly handcrafted. It's worth allowing enough time to marvel!

On Fridays, a small eatery with simple food and hot drinks awaits guests along the path. The eatery offers a daily soup, cheese toasted bread, and a snack plate with cheese and sausage before Grimmialp. By pre-order, from 8 people upwards, we also serve a fine, spicy Grimmi fondue in a copper pot over a wood fire (T 077 461 09 61, answering machine/WhatsApp). Payment by cash or TWINT.

From the chapel parking lot, the «Büchsewäg» leads up to the Schwenden chapel. Just follow the glowing cans – that way you can't miss the path. The path is not a circular route. However, on the way back, you will surely discover many more scenes that you overlooked on the way there. 

Directions & Parking facilities

Take the A6 motorway Bern towards Zweisimmen, turn left 1 km after the Simmenfluh tunnel towards Diemtigtal. Follow the Diemtigtal road up the valley for 19 km towards Schwenden, Grimmialp. 

Parking is available directly at the starting point at the chapel parking lot.

Take the train to Oey-Diemtigen. Then take the post bus to the stop “Schwenden i.D., Fildrichbrücke”. Continue along the road towards Grimmialp until you reach the chapel parking lot (walk on the right side of the road and pay attention to traffic). The starting point of the winter hiking trail is right at the parking lot.

Unfortunately, there are no more post bus services for the journey home in the evening. Use the carpool point at the car park by the chapel and make yourself known there. You are sure to find a lift back to Oey-Diemtigen railway station. A taxi service is available upon advance booking (information only available in German).

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The «Büchsewäg» was created on the initiative of the «Büchse-Froue». Anyone who would like to support the project to cover the costs is very welcome to put a contribution into the donation boxes provided on site or transfer something via Twint (you can find the information directly on the path). 

Safety guidelines

The «Büchsewäg» is groomed. Nevertheless, depending on the weather, it can be slippery. Good footwear and warm winter clothing are part of a winter walk.
