This tour is a bike variant for one of the Jakobswege in Switzerland. It largely follows the marked pilgrimage route but also leads over rideable alternative routes when the original route is not very "bike-friendly" and alternatives are available. The route is therefore not suitable for racing bikes.

Stage 7:

Buochs - Ennetmoos - Rohren/St.Jakob - Kerns - Flueli-Ranft

In the middle of the village at Cafe Posita, we turn left into Schulgässli. There follows a short steep climb to the Nothelfer chapel. From there we turn right into Schulgasse. We follow the signpost (footpath Ennerberg - Stans) westward and at the end of Schulstrasse turn right into Dorfstrasse. At Hotel Hirschen we turn left into Ennerbergstrasse, following the Jakobsweg signpost until after the motorway underpass, where we turn right towards Ennerberg. There the signposted Jakobsweg turns left.

Since the signposted Jakobsweg to Waltersberg is difficult to cycle, we go straight past the Loreto chapel and enter Wilgasse. At the end of Wilgasse we cross the cantonal road and go straight into Wilstrasse. In "Wilerrank" we then turn right into Engelbergstrasse, which leads us to the village square of Stans.

Because the Jakobsweg from Stans is arduous for cycling pilgrims, we take an alternative route, which does not follow the signposted Jakobsweg. We leave the village square on Stansstadstrasse and follow the bike path sign no. 4 to the roundabout. At the roundabout, we turn halfway left into Ennetmoostrasse and always follow bike path sign no. 85.

On the street, a lane is marked for cyclists. We ride on it through Ennetmoos, Rohren, St. Jakob, past the Rohren chapel to the Kerns (Kernswald) bus stop.

Here we turn right and cross the Kernwald until we reach Kerns. At the roundabout, we turn halfway left and stay on bike path no. 85. Via Dietried, Grund, Hof, Hostett and Hohe Brücke we reach Unterhag. There at the barn on the left side of the road, we turn left and follow the hiking path sign to Flüeli-Ranft.

Stage 8

Route: Flüeli-Ranft - Sachseln - Giswil- Bürglen (Kaiserstuhl) - Lungern-Obsee - Lungern (station) - Burgkapelle Brünig-Passhöhe (Zentralbahn station)

From Flüeli we ride on the main road to Sachseln church. The Jakobsweg to Giswil runs along the lakeside path. Since this lakeside path has a general traffic ban, we ride on the main road where a bike lane is marked. On certain sections, a separate and marked bike path can be used. At the end of Lake Sarnersee we meet the signposted Jakobsweg (Jakobsweg signpost). Here we turn right into Schwarzbachstrasse. Shortly after we turn left into Suttermattli Mattenweg and arrive at the village entrance, where we turn into Brünigstrasse and ride to the roundabout.

Since Brünigstrasse has heavy car traffic and is unsuitable for cycling on the Jakobsweg, we turn right into Panoramastrasse at the roundabout. There we follow the bike path signposts towards Thun.

Below the church we continue on Panoramastrasse and follow the bike path signs towards Meiringen/Lungern (bike path no. 9). After about 1.2 km we turn left and are now on bike path no. 9 (towards Meiringen / Lungern). There follows a steep climb (bike path climb sign) towards Kaiserstuhl and Bürglen at Lake Lungern. Along the way, we enjoy a wonderful view back to Lake Sarnersee. In Bürglen at the dam, turning right, we meet the signposted Jakobsweg.

On it, i.e., a beautiful lakeside path, we ride through Bürglen to Lungern/Obsee. From there we follow the bike path sign no. 9 (towards Meiringen/Lungern) and turn left into Lopstrasse. After a climb (bike path climb sign) we continue on Seestrasse, cross Brünig main road in the village and arrive at Lungern station via Bahnhofstrasse.

Lungern - Brünig

From Lungern station we go straight on Chäppelistrasse, i.e., bike path no. 9 (towards Meiringen), until we reach Burgkapelle, where we again meet the signposted Jakobsweg.

After enjoying the wonderful view back over Lake Lungern from this chapel, we continue on bike path no. 9 to Brünig Passhöhe. There we take a well-deserved rest and enjoy the view of the Bernese Alps and Hasli Valley.
